Looking for a quick getaway? We recently had a family staycation in Malibu and it was exactly what we needed. Waking up to an ocean view is what my soul needed. It’s the perfect place for SoCal locals (and tourists) to get that much needed time to unwind.
Family Staycation in Malibu
Known for its beautiful, sandy beaches, Malibu is located just West of Los Angeles. We love driving out there for hiking adventures and to grab lunch with an ocean view. But it is a drive, especially on the weekend with traffic on PCH. So it was nice to just stay there, venture to places in the area and kick-back to enjoy the Sunset.
Club Malibu Stay
For two-nights we stayed at Club Malibu 27 , a unique private destination club tucked away in the heart of Malibu, California. The secluded location offers 5 casitas that can each host from 4-8 overnight guests for an exclusive beachside getaway. The beach access was across the street…and it was quiet, which was perfect for social distancing!
We stayed in Casita A, which includes 2 bedrooms, 2 beds, and 1 bath. Plus it has a kitchen with everything you need, just bring your food and spices if you plan on cooking. The coffee machine (with its nice selection of pods) was an added bonus for this coffee lover. I loved having my coffee on the front porch with the ocean view.
Club Malibu 27 was the perfection location for us. We were near shops, restaurants, the beach, and hiking trails. And my boys enjoyed playing outside…it was a nice break from screens!
Malibu Creek State Park
Malibu offers some of the most beautiful hiking trails in SoCal. It’s no wonder a lot of movies and television shows were filmed there! During our staycation we drove to Malibu Creek State Park, a first for us, btw. It was about a 15 min. drive from our Club Malibu 27 stay. But first, we stopped at the nearby Wholefoods to pick-up a few snacks and our (me & the kids) favorite smoothie, Green and Glowing.
Malibu Creek State Park is the recreational crown jewel of the Santa Monica Mountains, with over 8,000 acres of rolling tall grass plains, oak savannahs and dramatic peaks. It is so beautiful and I don’t know why I waited this long to visit. Parking is $12 and we drove to the end of the parking lot near the start of the M*A*S*H site hiking trail. There are other trails that are EASY, MODERATE, and STRENUOUS. Be sure to do your research because this park offers so much like hiking, kayaking, camping, and more!
M*A*S*H Site
Regardless if you were a fan of the show or not (like me), this hiking trail is a must-do, especially for movie/TV buffs! It was so cool to see a piece of Hollywood history. The hike was 4.75 miles, round-trip. Bring plenty of water and snacks.
Malibu Lagoon State Beach
Malibu Lagoon is a favorite of ours! It’s where Malibu Creek meets the Pacific Ocean and the perfect spot to rest our feet after a long hike. Plus there’s a tide pool that the kids love! As you go from the parking lot towards the beach, you walk by the wetlands and flower gardens. Keep an eye out for local birds, too.
FYI its a walk from the parking lot to the beach area…so be sure you have everything you need.
