It’s Halloween season and Amazon Prime Boxtumes are here! This is my favorite time of year – so I’m excited to share a simple and easy DIY to make a Knight & Dragon #boxtumes for your littles ones to wear.
What are Boxtumes?
Boxtumes are homemade, creative costumes using Amazon smile boxes and crafting supplies you may already have. If you’re in need for more materials, you know exactly where to find them…AMAZON. I’ve been a Prime member for years and it’s my favorite place to shop because of the ample product offerings. Plus, Amazon Prime members enjoy fast & free shipping.
With that being said, let’s have fun and make costumes with Amazon smile boxes!
Knight & Dragon Boxtumes
Boxtumes are the perfect last minute DIY Halloween costumes to make and its a great way to get your kids involved. My boys love to get into character and the Knight & Dragon #boxtumes allow their imagination to run free during Halloween!
DIY Knight Boxtume
Supplies:
- Amazon smile boxes (medium and small)
- Paint
- Duct Tape
- Box Cutter and/or Sharp Scissors
- Marker
- Ruler
- Tacky Glue
Directions:
Shield
- Draw the shape and size of the shield on the flat side of your box. I started from the top for a clean edge and measured the midpoint for the bottom. Cut.
- Cut a long strip (with room to bend the sides) for the handle. Tape or glue down.
- Paint (optional).
- Once dry, add designs (optional). I used Duct Tape for decorations and added durability.
Sword
- Take the long side of your Amazon smile box and draw your sword. I used the lines on my box as a guide.
- Cut and don’t forget the handle.
- For added durability, use the sword to trace out a few more to glue together.
- Paint (optional).
- Once dry, add designs (optional). I added duct tape for a pop of color.
DIY Dragon Boxtume
This Boxtume requires your child to be present (for sizing).
Supplies:
- Amazon smile boxes (Large, Medium, Small)
- Paints (I used red and yellow)
- Duct Tape – the same color as the paint.
- Tacky Glue
- Ruler
- Marker
- Box cutter and/or Sharp Scissors
- White Paper
Directions:
- Start with a large rectangular flat box and tape down the long sides.
- Cut the outer edges for the openings.
- In an upright position – draw and cut out two arm holes. Tape the edges of the hole with duct tape for comfort (the edges are uncomfortable).
- For the back of the dragon, push the crease out to create a long vertical hump and secure with duct tape to hold in place.
- Cut a thick strip of the medium cardboard with a point edge for the tail and attach with duct tape.
- Cut triangles pieces with room to bend. Secure with glue and/or tape.
- For the head, I used a small cardboard box and shaped the mouth by bending and cutting pieces together.
- Take the white paper and cut a long strip of zig-zags for the sharp teeth. Glue.
- For the wings, I used 2 rectangular-shaped cardboard boxes to free-hand the “wings.” Cut and glue to the middle of your Dragon’s back.
- Paint.
What Boxtume will you create?
