Our favorite monsters are back and this time, they’re going on a much needed vacation! Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation is the latest installment to the Hotel Transylvania franchise and it was actually inspired by Director Genndy Tartakovsky’s very own family vacation.
Synopsis
In Sony Pictures Animation’s Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation, join our favorite monster family as they embark on a vacation on a luxury monster cruise ship so Drac can take a summer vacation from providing everyone else’s vacation at the hotel. It’s smooth sailing for Drac’s Pack as the monsters indulge in all of the shipboard fun the cruise has to offer, from monster volleyball to exotic excursions, and catching up on their moon tans. But the dream vacation turns into a nightmare when Mavis realizes Drac has fallen for the mysterious captain of the ship, Ericka, who hides a dangerous secret that could destroy all of monsterkind.

I had an opportunity to interview the cast and director after a special screening of Hotel Transylvania 3 with other bloggers…and as expected, it turned into a laugh-out-loud conversation while talking about their own memorable family vacations! The interview was LIVE on People’s Magazine’s Facebook page – scroll below to watch.

From left to right: Adam Samberg (Jonathan), Selena Gomez (Mavis), Kathryn Hahn (Ericka Van Helsing), and Genndy Tartakovsky (Director and voice of Blobby). |
I asked Director Genndy Tartakovsky if there were any Easter Eggs to look for in the film and he shared that Drac’s white leather loafers are inspired from one of his favorite movies – National Lampoon’s Vacation. Cool right?!
Our Monster Review
My boys are huge Hotel Transylvania fans, so they’ve been super excited about this movie, more so since we went on our very first family cruise this past May – sharing that on an upcoming post, soon!
The film had all our favorite characters, including a new lovable one, Tinkles…Dennis’ new pet who was introduced to us in the Hotel Transylvania short, Puppy. Pets aren’t allowed on the cruise, so we loved watching Dennis disguise his stowaway. That tiny hat and trench coat goes a long way. LOL
The film was so fun to watch with the kids, especially with the epic dance battle. There were a few scary parts that surprisingly Caiden (my oldest) was scared of but not Ronan (who’s 3 years old). He simply wasn’t happy that the Van Helsings were out to kill Drac…especially since he “Zinged.” But of course in true Hotel Transylvania nature, the movie has a happy ending filled with lots of laughs.
The movie is now playing in theaters! For more info, visit http://www.hotelt3.com.
