I got to experience Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel back in 2007 with Danny. Our trip to Italy was very special because he proposed to me days after our visit to the Vatican…in Venice (to be exact). So I was excited to preview this exhibit last week…I got to go back to Italy for a couple of hours without leaving the country.
If you’ve ever been, then you know the magnitude of the world’s greatest artistic achievements. You also remember the rules…be very quite and no photos. OH! and I can’t forget the neck cramps from staring up at the ceiling frescoes. With all that being said, I will never forgot how breathtaking and surreal it was to be there. AND hopefully one day, I’ll experience it again with my kids.
But in the meantime, an exhibit like this is not to be missed! The breathtaking UP CLOSE: MICHELANGELO’S SISTINE CHAPEL allows visitors to experience Michelangelo’s renowned ceiling frescoes reproduced in near original size in a format that allows viewers to get face to face with the artist’s masterpieces. There are 34 reproductions artfully displayed for visitors to walk through (take photos) and view world renowned pieces like The Creation of Adam and The Last Judgement. Throughout the gallery, you’ll find benches facing the reproduced frescoes for guests to sit and draw, something I highly recommend to do with the kids!
This is a great family-friendly exhibit that I highly recommend for art lovers and for those who want to learn more about art. But be prepared if you’re bringing small children, Michelangelo’s frescoes has a mix of nudes…and kids will ask why.
Visitors may also enhance their experience by adding an optional audio guide, with narrative accompaniment available in 4 languages, Spanish being one. Audio guides are available for $2 and are also included in some special ticket packages.
The eight-week exhibition first opened in The Oculus at Westfield World Trade Center on June 23 and in addition to Los Angeles, the Pop-Up gallery will be traveling to various cities throughout the country. For more information, visit www.westfield.com/upclose.

Oh my goodness. This is stunning! I wish I could see this for myself. Thank you for blogging about it, though! Seeing it on screen is better than not seeing it at all I suppose 🙂
Wow! What an incredible experience. I hope the pop-up gallery makes a stop here in Sacramento. I'd love to be able to see it. I'll check out the link you provided. Thank you!
