Last weekend, we got to celebrate the DVD/Blu-ray release of Ice Age: Collision Course at the Discovery Cube Orange County. We’re big fans of the Ice Age franchise but haven’t seen the latest installment, so this was an “out-of-this-World” experience for my boys!
Our day started with a morning breakfast with my favorite character, Scrat! And he’s the reason why all the Ice Age heroes are back in an all-new adventure. In Ice Age: Collision Course, Scrat’s epic pursuit of the elusive acorn accidentally triggers cosmic events that threaten the ICE AGE world. Because of his love obsession for acorns…Buck, Manny, Ellie, Sid, Diego and the rest of the herd must work together on a hilarious journey filled with nonstop action and colorful new characters in order to survive the global Scrat-tastrophe! Thanks Scrat, but we still love you.
After our photo opp with Scrat, we headed to the Discovery Theater and got the behind-the-scenes scoop on the DVD/Blu-ray Special Features with Director Galen Chu. The Special Features are hilarious, my favorite was “The Science of It All: deGrasse Tyson deBunks,” but they’re all a must-see! Story Artist, Jony Chandra was also there talking about color compositions that were used in making the film and he did a Character Drawing Session with the kids! It was beyond cool that Caiden got to learn how to draw a few beloved characters with a Story Artist from the film! After the kids got creative, UCLA Professor Abby Kavner talked about the real world impact of Scrat’s antics in space and she brought her Space Rocks to share with the kids.

Our day ended with a special group VIP tour (we were Team Scrat) through the Discovery Cube exhibits that related to the film. We explored Mission Control, the Planetary Research Station and the Science of Hockey exhibits. The family had a great time learning about the impact we would have if there was a global Scrat-tastrophe…which I hope never happens!
